This is a project that I started a long, long time ago...

http://ezpcfix.net/dload/custom16.iso

This is a bootable cd that has lots of "all-purpose" goodies built in. It's meant for systems without much ram (24/32mb). The iso image is only about 5mb but it has lots of usefull utilities built in.

It's very easy to integrate into your ubcd/ubcd4win combo cd but you can also just burn it to cd and boot it.

The "CleanUp" function allows you to cleanup an existing Win9x/ME installation. It's a "step-by-step" process that doesn't delete or change anything unless you tell it to during the process.

The "ReMaster" function is really nice. Since this cd boots entirely into ram (you can even eject the cd), you can make changes and it creates a new iso for you and gives you the option to burn it to cd. If you booted from a cd-rw, it will even blank it for you and write it back to the same cd that you booted from!

You can also backup files from an older pc to cd, backup/restore your mbr or entire partitions...

This is a utility cd that I started making for myself a long time ago and I use it everyday and I thought that others would benefit from it too.

You can burn it to cd-rw and boot it then make changes and reboot it and end up with something completely different than what you started with. That's something you don't see very often :)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and let me know of anything usefull that you might add to it.

A big thanks to linuxkid (from Peanut Linux) for the mbr backup/restore script.

Does the project have a name?

All good tools deserve a name..

hmm, good question. I've always just called it my custom linux just naming the iso's custom.iso After I increased the size of the ramdisk from 8mb to 16mb, I started naming the iso's custom16.iso

Do you have any suggestions?

This deserves a bump. I'm assuming some members of the development team didn't know about this and a few others lost track of it so it wasn't included in 3.0.

I'm thinking this needs to be in 3.01?? If we ever find the time to finish/release it??

I was in the first couple drafts of the multiboot setup but needed the attention of a "Linux Man" as I could not get it to "Play nice" with the other linux stuff that the ubcd plugin adds to the build. I'm sure it will make it eventually & will be popular amungst Linux users, but I never took the time to understand the Linux boot process & have my hands full with other matter right now.

No offense Randy, but I did suggest it awhile ago. :)

No excuse really... except that I didn't need a small ISO then so I didn't follow the link... ignorance is bliss

Thanks to SteelTrepid for the bump. I don't know how I missed it but I did

I have a working multiboot plugin, I'll try to get it posted tomorrow (unless I stay up late and do it tonight).

@rdsok
I'm sure you already know this but GParted is now a seperate multiboot plugin but ClamAV might be an interesting challenge ;)

If anyone's interested in modifying this to add your own stuff to the menu or just to have fun, the main shell script that produces the initial menu screen is a file in the root directory called "mainmenu".

Although I still use this cd daily, I haven't played with this project for quite a while but it's kind of fun to make changes then have the new iso burned back to the same cdrw that you just booted from then reboot and see your changes. It boots in just a few seconds too so that makes it more fun.

I always use this cd first when cleaning up a win9x/me install before booting UBCD4Win to do the scans. My "cleanup" script is different than the published version but that's about it.

Hi,
I just discovered this page, and 'custom16.iso' looks interesting. But it seems the link does not work anymore. Where can I get it now?
Thanks
